Its name is Cadore, and since the beginning of the financial crisis of 2008 its mission has been to take care of the territory and its inhabitants.
In the middle of the Dolomites, twelve years ago Cooperativa Cadore was born, and since then has been working to promote environmental sustainability through solidarity and brotherhood.
As most of the mountain regions around Europe, all the Cadore area is now suffering from a strong emigration. One of the missions of the Cooperative is in fact to make the area more livable, and react against the phenomenon of migration from the mountains to the urban areas where the everyday life is easier thanks to all types of comfort that are changing our habits.
We go back to 2008, the financial crisis tackles Europe, and as a consequence in Cadore grows unemployment and depopulation. Lots of young people leave Cadore to go to urbanized areas or abroad to find a job. In particular Cadore district was famous for the production of eyewear products but after 2008 many companies closed and many families remained without an income. Cadore Social Cooperative was also born to give an answer and create work opportunities with a strong collaboration with local institutions.
All the objectives of Cadore can be summarized in one unique activity: tackling poverty, this is the only solution to fight against the emigration of people from the rural areas to big cities. Cadore SCS is trying to achieve this with a special attention to weak categories of disadvantaged people, only by helping the weaker part of the society you can reach the whole community. Cadore SCS creates employment and tackles poverty through activities able to valorize the territory. The main sectors of the Cooperative are three:
- Environmental maintenance and land management;
- Global services (cleaning and sanitizing);
- Touristic Sector.
The activities of the Cooperative run by Alessandra Buzzo are many, but all of them aim to give dignity to human beings. People that are in dramatic situations (disabled, alcohol or drug addicted, long term unemployment) work in the company, and offering them work opportunities is the only way to give them a concrete answer and at the same time help local public institutions to solve this social problem.
In 2020 the cooperative gave job opportunities to 258 people (at least 30% of them were disadvantage people according to Italian law), maintained 15 kilometres of footpath, and planted new trees in a rural area of 53 thousand square meters.Cooperativa Cadore 2020
All the activities are planned within a territorial strategy that guarantees fundamental services for the territory that otherwise would be destined to close.
In 2020 the cooperative gave job opportunities to 258 people (at least 30% of them were disadvantage people according to Italian law), maintained 15 kilometres of footpath, and planted new trees in a rural area of 53 thousand square meters.
All these experiences sound like a good contribution of social cooperatives to decent work and economic growth.
